Factor label or dimensional analysis

Units such as grams, meters, etc. can be treated as if they are numbers in operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. To see this, do the following:

a.)    Multiply 2 x 2

b.)    Multiply seconds x seconds

c.)    Do the following and show your work (2 x 3)/2

d.)    (ft x seconds)/ft

e.)    (22 x 3)/3

f.)      (ft2 x lbs)/ft

g.)    2 inches x 3 inches

h.)    A box measures 5 cm on each side. What is the volume of the box?

i.)      5 ft + 3 ft

FOUR STEPS

1.)    Write down the given number in units

2.)    Write down a ratio with the given unit in the denominator (bottom) and the unit sought in the numerator (top)

3.)    Insert the proper conversion numbers in the denominator and numerator.

4.)    Multiply and cancel out units.

Do the following. Be sure to show the units and how you canceled them out. Also, try and record your answers to the correct number of significant digits.
